Project Overview
I created this branding project for a historic bed and breakfast called The Merchant’s Rest to explore how design can capture a sense of history, place, and atmosphere through a cohesive visual identity. The project includes a custom logo inspired by Portland’s maritime past, along with a series of three door hangers and planned brand extensions like a repeating pattern and social media graphics that all work together to create a unified and inviting brand system. My goal was to design a visual identity that feels timeless and welcoming while still appealing to modern travelers. I focused on strong typography, consistent branding, and the use of classic serif fonts, warm muted color palettes, and subtle vintage-inspired details to bring the brand to life. Each element builds on the overall story of The Merchant’s Rest, using consistent visual elements and thoughtful layout choices to maintain a cohesive look across all applications. This project allowed me to explore how branding can create an emotional connection by blending history with modern design, resulting in a brand experience that feels both authentic and memorable.
